St Anne’s hive of activity

The first batch of honey has been collected from the St Anne’s Church beehives by our appropriately suited beekeepers. Our bees had been hard at work and the honey combs glistened in the sunshine as they were collected prior to the honey being prepared for sale.

The honey will be on sale soon with the proceeds going to both the HNCC and St Anne’s

Creative Volunteers Auction

Many of our talented supporters have donated the fruits of their creative labours to our first ‘Creative Volunteers Auction’.

A big thank you to everyone who donated, and to all those who bid in our auction. We raised in excess of £1,200 for the food project which is providing vital supplies to those most in need in our community.  We were blown away by the high quality of the art and other services and talents on offer.  We look forward to doing it all again in the future.

The auction started online and closed with a live radio show hosted by Dan Carrier on Boogaloo Radio. Apologies to anyone who was trying to listen in as technical problems meant that the live broadcast was turned off before it was complete.

To celebrate the efforts of all involved we enjoyed the opportunity to have a party with our volunteers in the green space by the food bank. This was to say thank you for all the hard work, time and dedication over the last three or so months which in these unprecedented times have been such a challenge for everyone.  Of course, proper social distancing was in place and the hand sanitizer flowing!  It was lovely to see all the volunteers who came and provided such lovely pieces of art, crafts and cakes in the auction.

The food project provides food parcels, hot meals and help with picking up shopping and prescriptions for those who need it.  We are currently working hard to get our new meals on wheels service up and running for September.  Keep an eye out for more news about this.

We are also looking at further ways to support the community and help to save money with new services. Watch this space for more…

A grant from Antonio

The Antonio Carluccio Foundation has generously provided £7,000 in new grant funding to support the critically important work of the Highgate Newtown Community Centre in its response to the Covid19 pandemic.

The HNCC is currently focussing all resources on supporting the vulnerable in the local community in the provision of essential supplies and food. The grant will provide vital support to the HNCC meals on wheels service and in a very real sense support the health of many people at this time.

Antonio Carluccio was a London based chef and restauranteur. Known as the ‘godfather of Italian gastronomy’ Antonio set up a Foundation to carry forward his legacy before he passed away in November 2017. The Foundation works to alleviate hunger worldwide also helping disadvantaged cooks and chefs entering the hospitality industry.

Volunteer thanks

Amazing volunteers are giving countless hours to HNCC and supporting our community. Each and every one deserves our huge thanks for making a real impact in these difficult times.

We are currently have all the volunteers we need, but this is likely to change as people’s work circumstances alter. Please therefore continue to contact us with your donations and offers of help, and know that if we do not take you up on your offer if you are volunteering with us it is because we are at capacity, but we still need to hear from you and may need to call on you soon.

It is at times like these that we really recognise the meaning of community and the importance of offering mutual support. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.

HNCC Coronavirus response

A huge thank you to all those who have donated to our Coronavirus response centre over the last few weeks, it makes a really big difference to the support we can provide our community.  We have already helped 400+ people with with over 150 food parcels distributed.  Our meals on wheels service is getting busier and the feedback we are getting is that this is a very important service to the people who are receiving our meals.  We have also picked up over 50 prescriptions and delivered them to the door, and have done shopping and helped with other errands.  Our volunteers are also supporting Brookfield School by delivering hot meals to children on free school meals.
